S•K Treasures Aotearoa is a small handmade Māori owned business based in Ōtautahi, Christchurch. Every piece that leaves here is made by hand, in small numbers, and no two are ever quite the same.
What we make
Kakahu, woven whatu adorned with materials we have available.
Ornamental mini kakahu made as gifts and keepsakes.
Resin earrings, with designs drawn from Māori Pūrakau, myths and legends or based around Te Ao Māori beliefs.
Alongside these you'll find one-off pieces like our canvas paintings and hand-crocheted items.
Made by hand, made to last
Because each piece is worked by hand, small variations in weave, feather and colour are part of the making, not a flaw. It's what makes your piece yours. We work with natural materials wherever we can, including harakeke, muka, pāua and feathers, and we finish every piece properly so it can be kept and passed on.
Our story
Created and designed by a young māmā (mother) that descends from Ngā Puhi, Tainui and Ngāruahine tribes in Aotearoa, New Zealand. She has passion for sharing the beauty on what she enjoys doing, and also teaching her children, they help gather, prepare, and store the natural materials that may be used for your taonga. Yes! we support each other as a little whānau (family) but our aim is to showcase Māori art and culture through our eyes.
S•K Treasures Aotearoa was created from a desire to transform our taonga into treasured pieces for everyone to embrace, wear and enjoy. This shows in the name of the business which is named after her children.
Little or big treasures can evolve into high standard taonga with guidance, care, values and beliefs.
Each piece brings together traditional Māori inspiration with a contemporary twist, creating something meaningful, unique and made to be treasured.
